Never Say Never

Allegiance by Patrick Medrano

Tall Husband and I swore that we had enough art, that we would never buy another piece, however, we live dangerously close to art galleries...walking distance. We were out for an evening walk when we saw that the old Heights-Theater-cum-art-gallery was having an opening. What could it hurt to just look? Well, you are looking at our latest purchase, an edgy sculpture by Houston sculptor/painter Patrick Medrano.

There are additional photos at My Ranchburger blog of the piece after we installed it in the art niche in the garage/studio behind The Bunny Bungalow.

Welcome home, Baby!

Note: The piece is from Gallery M Squared in the historic Heights Theater. There is an interesting back story associated with the sculpture, which I'll reveal when I know the ending.

Mummy Dearest

Sharon Kopriva's paintings and sculptures have been exhibited on almost every Continent and are in numerous museums and private collections around the world.

A visit to Sharon Kopriva's studio leaves one with the feeling of having stumbled into an ancient catacomb filled with remains of spiritual souls who have brought along their sacred relics. It is not an experience you will forget and neither will you forget the inhabitants you meet there.

Barbara, a fellow art patron and I ran into each other at an exhibit one evening at Redbud Gallery. As is customary at such events, we wandered down a hallway into Sharon's studio to see what works were in progress. "I wonder where Sister Mary Purity is tonight," Barbara said.

"I haven't seen her around," I answered. Neither of us seemed to realize that we were speaking of a paper-m
âche/mixed media sculpture and not an actual person. This bespectacled being, seated in her small white chair, wearing her white habit, had been an engaging regular at gallery openings.

Now I must find out what has happened to our little nun, Sister Mary Purity. I trust that she has found an interesting museum or a welcoming home. As she likes parties, hopefully there will be many for her to attend.
