Are you weary of those flimsy big-box register covers that detract from the historic look of your house? Do you hate shelling out big bucks for reproduction house parts? Cannot find antique replacements? I have noticed recently that Restoration Hardware has a selection of well-made, reasonably-priced house parts. These register covers are a wonderful example and are available in various finishes and sizes. It's like buying jewelry for you home!

  1. Those are cute! I'm glad RH is carrying them now. I always see ads for stuff like that at the back of mags like Country Living but never in mainstream store ads. Good for RH!

  2. I haven't been in RH in so long. My funny story with them is this. We know the founder,Steve Gordon, and when we were in college, my husband and I worked in the very first RH in Eureka California. My husband was employee number 6. I did window displays and odd jobs.
To see RH this giant is still amazing. Steve started RH when he bought a huge Victorian in Eureka, and couldn't find the parts to refurbish it,hence the name. His original store had wood working tools, and all kinds of hardware for the home. To see it now become more of a bed and bath store is painful. It is nice however that they still have some pieces like the ones you pictured, for your home. Steve sold the store ages ago and you can tell the charm that he brought to it is gone now.
If you want to see what the original store looked like go to my blog and see my post on a trip we took up to Eureka in April. I think I labeled it "travels."

  3. Elizabeth,
What a great story! I can't wait to see the original RH on your blog. So I'm off to Eureka via Gossamer Wings!

P.S. "Hello" to RH Employee number 6.
