Magnolia Pearl at Marburger Farm Antique Show in Round Top, Texas.
Tall Husband and I headed toward Round Top last Saturday. Round Top is a tiny little town in the picturesque Hill Country of Texas about ninety miles from The Bunny Bungalow. This wide spot in the road is the world mecca of antiques two times each year, when the population swells from 77 to that of a good-sized city. This was our first time to attend a Round Top show, so we decided to concentrate on one venue, Marburger Farm Antique Show.
One of the most wonderful vendors at the show is Magnolia Pearl, a clothing company out of Bandera, Texas. Asked what style their clothes are, Pearl will tell you, "Victorian Funk." When I was in the dressing room trying on a white pair of pantaloons with a matching top, I couldn't suppress a giggle when I saw myself in the mirror; I was covered with hay, as the dressing-room chair was a bail of hay and the floor was carpeted with loose hay. We have a saying in Texas, "A roll in the hay," which means...well you figure it out.
I came home with some of that gauzy white Victorian Funk and it makes me feel like a girl again. Magnolia Pearl's things are pure Hill Country magic. When I put them on, I can hear the mandolins and the call of the haystack.
