Pop. 77

This Texas Sign is famous among lovers of antiques around the world. As the Round Top Area Chamber of Commerce puts it, "Who would think that a town of 77 could offer the world so much?"

Traffic Jam in Round Top last Spring. Photo taken from our old Bemer as we drove out of town.

Tall Husband and I were in Round Top, Texas the last day of their Spring Antiques Festival. We saw our fill of Antiques at the Marburger Farm Antique Show but did not see the Town of Round Top, as we could not find a place in town to park. Who would think that a town of 77 could have a traffic jam?

Klump's in Round Top, Texas. They serve a great pork roast & gravy with sides of mashed sweet potatoes and pork-spiked green beans. I was ready to plow the back forty after such a substantial lunch.

So, we vowed to return for a visit to Round Top and did so last Monday on our trip back from Austin, Texas. Our first stop was lunch at Klump's, a popular Round Top gathering place. Klump's, like the rest of Round Top, is usually closed on Mondays. Nobody could offer us a reason for its being open this particular Monday.

Since the town was closed, we crawled under a chain and guided ourselves on a tour of antique homes at the Henkel Square Museum Village. (In our defense, there was a sign over the chain that read: Herzlich Willcommen. I still remember some of my German and know that means Warm welcome!) This place is pure heaven for lovers of all things antique. And I thought The Bunny Bungalow was old. These wonderful houses make my home seem brand new.

Tomorrow, on this blog, there will be photos of the exteriors of some of the museum homes. And you won't have to crawl under a chain to see them!

  4. Klump's was open because they *sensed* you were coming and needed their special sustenance. How could they not accommodate the Bunny Bungalow family?!
