Ladybug, Ladybug...

This sweet Ladybug was hanging around my door, but I thought she might be happier eating aphids in my garden. She was easy enough to catch and place on a plant; however, she was not cooperative during the photographic session. She kept crawling under a leaf, hiding from my lens.

Ladybug
Ladybug! Ladybug! Fly away home;
Your house is on fire, your children all gone;
All but one, and her name is Ann,
And she crept under the pudding pan.

Did you say this poem to Ladybugs when you were a child? I did. If you want to learn facts and lore about Ladybugs, go to Mrs. Seagraves wonderful website.

I dedicate this posting to blog pal Deb over at Ladybug from Texas.

Note: One spring, Tall Husband and I bought a bag of Ladybugs to help us with an aphid problem. We carefully followed the instructions for releasing them onto our plants. I guess they hadn't read the instructions, for they all flew immediately to our neighbor's garden.

  1. I love ladybugs! Never learned the poem, but I do remember years and years ago, in kindergarten, collecting them off of the fence during outside play time. I still watch for them and taught my girls when they were young that these are "good bugs" (as opposed to bad, like big, nasty Texas roaches!)

  4. What a great photo! I love ladybugs! We had about a thousand of them hybernate over the winter a couple of years ago... in our laundry room... it was great when spring came... they were everywhere in the house... we had to open the doors and windows so they could escape!
